About the event

Located thirty miles north of Eureka, Sue-meg State Park is situated on a lushly forested promontory beside the Pacific Ocean. This one-square-mile park is packed with educational opportunities and adventures. A walk around the park’s perimeter allows students to hunt for agates, explore tidepools, and navigate through a dense jungle of shrubs. Along the way, they might observe seals, sea lions, and possibly even migrating whales.

Inside the park, visitors will learn about the native plant garden and the reconstructed Yurok plank-house village. Sue-meg Village, built through a collaboration between State Parks and the Yurok Tribe, serves as a cultural revitalization site for the Yurok people. Native descendants, who are interpreters at the park, maintain their relationship with this significant space by offering guided tours of Sue-meg Village. These hour long tours share the rich history and culture of the indigenous people, making it an enriching and memorable experience.
