About the event

There's always something tech-tastic happening at The Tech Interactive! There are so many staff facilitated experiences like the BioTinkering Lab as well as hands-on experiences in genetics, earth sciences, alternative energy, virtual design, and lots more. It's also home to the largest IMAX Dome Theater, which plays a variety of educational films. Interactive exhibits include Biology, Biotechnology, Health, Engineering, Art, Music, Technology, Earth and Space.

In addition to the many exhibits, your student will also get to participate in an Innovation Lab and IMAX experience. Innovation Labs deepen student learning, encourage teamwork and build confidence in the engineering design process. Participants will use the design process to brainstorm, design, build, test and redesign creative solutions to real-world science and engineering challenges. All Innovation Labs support Next Generation Science Standards and last 45 minutes.

Innovation Lab

11:00-11:45

For grades 4-12

Student engineers work in teams to design and test their own approach to creating a sustainable city.

11:00-11:45

For grades 1-4

Junior robotics engineers work as a team to “debug” a non-functioning robot and create an algorithm to help others with troubleshooting.

IMAX: 12pm Cities of the Future

Imagine stepping 50 years into the future and finding smart cities designed to be totally sustainable. Renewable energy is our primary power source, space-based solar power provides solar energy 24 hours a day, everything is recycled, and you travel in individualized pods that run on little or no energy. This isn’t science fiction. Engineers are making plans for a sustainable world right now, and it’s coming to the giant screen! Cities of the Future is produced in association with American Society of Civil Engineers.

Run time of 40 minutes

*please note that the Jane Goodall film is no longer scheduled that day.
