About the event
Due to limited availability and the considerable effort involved in organizing these field trips, please only register if you know you can attend.
Join us as we embark on an educational journey through one of California’s most pristine wetland ecologies. After a brief lesson and outfitting in a single or double kayak (depending on your preference with your student), our guide will lead us as we paddle over to Tuluwat, the ancestral home of the Wiyot people. We will pass the ancient shell mounds and archaeological sites that are now part of the Humboldt Bay National Wildlife Refuge.
The tidal currents will carry us to the world-famous egret rookery, a windswept grove of Cypress trees and home to American bald eagles, Great blue herons, and Snowy egrets—an unforgettable sight. Seals are the largest creatures in Humboldt Bay, and you'll likely spot them throughout the tour.
